The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, advanced for the tenth straight session on Wednesday, rising 3.4% to a new peak since March 2024 at 2,401 points, supported by gains across all segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, climbed 7.2% to a near two-year high of 3,998 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, was up for the sixth day, rising 0.4% to 1,965 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index increased by 0.3% to 1,435 points.
