Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni met with Irish Minister for European Affairs and Defense Thomas Byrne for working talks in Vaduz on February 11, 2026. The visit provided an opportunity for a comprehensive exchange on European, security policy, and geopolitical issues.

On February 11, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni welcomed Irish Minister for European Affairs and Defense Thomas Byrne to Vaduz for an official visit. The meeting was held in anticipation of Ireland's upcoming EU Council Presidency in the second half of 2026.

The talks between Monauni and Byrne focused on Liechtenstein's relations with the European Union. They discussed current cooperation within the European Economic Area and the priorities of the upcoming Irish EU Presidency. Other topics included security policy challenges in Europe and strengthening European competitiveness.

During discussions on the situation in Ukraine, both the security dimension and ongoing and future efforts to rebuild Ukraine were discussed, with particular emphasis on a trilateral reconstruction project between Ireland, Estonia, and Liechtenstein. Finally, transatlantic relations, which remain of great importance to Europe, were discussed.

"Personal contacts with the respective EU Council Presidency are an important tool for Liechtenstein as an EEA member and close partner of the EU to learn about strategic priorities and raise its own concerns," said Deputy Prime Minister Sabine Monauni. She praised Minister Byrne's visit and thanked him for the open and constructive dialogue. Minister Byrne, in turn, emphasized the friendly relations between the two countries and expressed his admiration for Liechtenstein's commitment to European and foreign policy.

Following the working meeting with Foreign Minister Monauni, Minister Byrne paid a courtesy visit to H.S.H. Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein.
